The checkbox marked 'Keep me logged in' works by writing a small file, called a cookie, on your computer. Whenever you come back to the web site, your computer sends this file to the web site, telling it who you are. This is fine if you're the only user of your computer. But if you have logged in from somewhere like the public library, then anyone else who uses that computer will also be logged in as you.

On this web site, the worst that could happen is that someone pretending to be you could report having seen, let's say, a Flammulated Owl eating chickadees at your feeder. This would make you look pretty stupid to other birders, but it wouldn't be as bad as ordering a Ferrari on your credit card.
